Landmark Heritage Foundation was thrilled to host the opening gala for the Julia Morgan 2012 Festival, a six-week long series of events celebrating the life, work, and legacy of Julia Morgan to the cultural landscape of California.
Journalist and social entrepreneur, artist, patron of the arts, political activist, feminist, filmmaker, and radio broadcaster, Dorka Keehn, was our speaker for the night. Her talk emphasized the challenges and triumphs of women in the architectural profession, both past and present.
Chefs the Berkeley City Club and other Julia Morgan-designed venues, including Asilomar, the Fairmont Hotel, the Julia Morgan Ballroom at the Merchants Exchange, and MacArthur Park in Palo Alto opened the evening with a delicious array of hors d’oeuvres, and the silent auction was a rousing success. As part of our participation in the Julia Morgan 2012 Festival, LHF also launched the Julia Morgan Photo Contest. See the results here.

LHF Board member, Dr. Karen McNeill, a Julia Morgan scholar, was particularly busy during the JM2012 festival. Click here to watch her lecture, “Julia Morgan: Insights into Her Genius and Legacy,” presented at UC Berkeley Extension, in San Francisco, on October 20, 2012.
